Captain James Cook on his last world voyage in 1778 sailed North to Alaska and claimed her for Good King George at Point Possession near Anchorage. A Bagpiper was aboard his command ship the Resolution, but he was a drinker and drank more than his share of the daily Grog, So the Good Captain, put him ashore and sailed off to Hawaii.

Reformed in 1987 and headquartered in Anchorage, Captain Cook's Own Alaska Highlanders is a registered non-profit 501(c)3 corporation organized under the laws of the State Alaska as a cultural and educational organization dedicated to the promotion of Scottish Culture with specific instruction on the playing of the Great Highland Warpipe, Scottish Snare, Tenor and Bass Drums as well as all things Scottish.
